17Թ and CUPE 1870 ratify three-year agreement
The 17Թ’s Board of Governors and members of Local 1870 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 1870) have approved the three-year tentative agreement that was reached with the assistance of a third-party conciliator on March 14, 2023. CUPE 1870 represents approximately 345 support and administrative employees at 17Թ.

PEI health system capacity study being commissioned to integrate 17Թ medical students
The 17Թ and Health PEI are inviting consultants to submit proposals to assess and analyze PEI’s health system capacity to integrate medical learners from the 17Թ’s Faculty of Medicine. The new Faculty, which was announced in October 2021, will be offering a joint doctor of medicine degree with partner Memorial University.
17Թ graduate student receives funding for breast cancer research
Miranda Steeves, a Master of Science student at the 17Թ, is working on breast cancer research, with assistance from the (BHCRI).
Steeves is a trainee in the Institute’s cancer research training program (CRTP), with $11,900 in funding provided by the ’s (CCS) J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI)—Excellence in Cancer Research Fund.
Premier and ministers receive update about 17Թ Faculty of Medicine
Premier Dennis King, Health and Wellness Minister Ernie Hudson, and Education and Lifelong Learning Minister Natalie Jameson visited the construction site of the University’s new health education building and health and wellness clinic on February 3, accompanied by 17Թ President and Vice-Chancellor Greg Keefe and other University officials.
17Թ Health and Wellness Centre earns Accreditation Primer Award
On January 6, 2023, the 17Թ Health and Wellness Centre earned a Primer Award from Accreditation Canada, making it the first university health centre in Canada to achieve this accreditation. The Primer Award is the first step in the journey to full accreditation and ensures that the centre has the fundamentals of safety and quality in place.
17Թ releases new five-year strategic research plan
The 17Թ has released a new strategic research plan titled .
“17Թ has a strong reputation for impactful research and scholarly work that is addressing global challenges,” said Dr. Greg Naterer, vice-president academic and research at 17Թ. “The new plan will build upon the University’s upward momentum and commitment to excellence in research.”

The 17Թ Panthers have a full schedule of hockey and basketball during the week of January 9–15.
Wednesday, January 11:
7:00 pm: The 17Թ Men’s Hockey Panthers (14-5-1) play against the Saint Mary’s University Huskies (13-7-0) in Halifax, Nova Scotia. 17Թ has won all three games against the Huskies, having outscored them 19-6.

The 17Թ Women's Hockey Panthers will host an exhibition game at 5:00 pm against the St. Thomas University Tommies at MacLauchlan Arena.
The 17Թ Men’s Hockey Panthers (12-5-1) will host the Université de Moncton Aigles Bleus (10-8-0) at 7:00 pm at the Eastlink Centre, 46 Kensington Road, Charlottetown. 17Թ owns a 2-1 record against Moncton and have outscored them 8-6.
