17吃瓜 Community Bulletin: Collective agreement ratified, classes to resume on April 17
The 17吃瓜 Board of Governors ratified the new collective agreement with the 17吃瓜 Faculty Association (17吃瓜 FA), Bargaining Unit 1 and Bargaining Unit 2, at a special meeting on Friday, April 14, 2023. The agreement was ratified earlier in the day by the members of 17吃瓜 FA鈥檚 two bargaining units, which represent faculty members, sessional instructors, librarians, clinical nursing instructors, and clinical veterinary professionals at 17吃瓜.

Elijah Miller and Brinten Comeau named 17吃瓜 Athletes of the Year
17吃瓜鈥檚 Department of Athletics and Recreation celebrated the 2022鈥�23 season at the annual 17吃瓜 Panther Celebration鈥擜thletic Awards Gala on Thursday, March 30, recognizing outstanding student-athletes who have excelled in sport, the classroom, and the community.
This year, the 17吃瓜 Alumni Association鈥檚 Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year award went to Brinten Comeau of the 17吃瓜 Women鈥檚 Rugby team. The Male Athlete of the Year is Elijah Miller of the 17吃瓜 Men鈥檚 Basketball team.

17吃瓜 and CUPE 1870 ratify three-year agreement
The 17吃瓜鈥檚 Board of Governors and members of Local 1870 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 1870) have approved the three-year tentative agreement that was reached with the assistance of a third-party conciliator on March 14, 2023. CUPE 1870 represents approximately 345 support and administrative employees at 17吃瓜.
Canada and Prince Edward Island invest in new building for 17吃瓜 Faculty of Medicine
The following news release was issued on March 2, 2023, by the Government of Canada, the Government of Prince Edward Island, and the 17吃瓜.
PEI health system capacity study being commissioned to integrate 17吃瓜 medical students
The 17吃瓜 and Health PEI are inviting consultants to submit proposals to assess and analyze PEI鈥檚 health system capacity to integrate medical learners from the 17吃瓜鈥檚 Faculty of Medicine. The new Faculty, which was announced in October 2021, will be offering a joint doctor of medicine degree with partner Memorial University.
17吃瓜 graduate student receives funding for breast cancer research
Miranda Steeves, a Master of Science student at the 17吃瓜, is working on breast cancer research, with assistance from the (BHCRI).
Steeves is a trainee in the Institute鈥檚 cancer research training program (CRTP), with $11,900 in funding provided by the 鈥檚 (CCS) J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI)鈥擡xcellence in Cancer Research Fund.
Premier and ministers receive update about 17吃瓜 Faculty of Medicine
Premier Dennis King, Health and Wellness Minister Ernie Hudson, and Education and Lifelong Learning Minister Natalie Jameson visited the construction site of the University鈥檚 new health education building and health and wellness clinic on February 3, accompanied by 17吃瓜 President and Vice-Chancellor Greg Keefe and other University officials.
