Dear Members of the University Community,
17³Ô¹Ï has continued to monitor public health guidance in order to make any necessary adjustments to our protocols as the COVID-19 situation evolves and as our unique university environment warrants.
Free meningitis-B vaccine available to 17³Ô¹Ï students living in residence
On April 21, 2023, the PEI Department of Health and Wellness announced that eligibility for the meningococcal B (Men-B) vaccine program for the prevention of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) is expanding to include more higher risk individuals.
Beginning this month, the Men-B vaccine (two doses) will be available through the province’s Chief Public Health Office (CPHO) to students attending a post-secondary school and living in residence in PEI or out-of-province. The cost is being covered by the provincial government.
17³Ô¹Ï Community Bulletin: Collective agreement ratified, classes to resume on April 17
The 17³Ô¹Ï Board of Governors ratified the new collective agreement with the 17³Ô¹Ï Faculty Association (17³Ô¹Ï FA), Bargaining Unit 1 and Bargaining Unit 2, at a special meeting on Friday, April 14, 2023. The agreement was ratified earlier in the day by the members of 17³Ô¹Ï FA’s two bargaining units, which represent faculty members, sessional instructors, librarians, clinical nursing instructors, and clinical veterinary professionals at 17³Ô¹Ï.

Elijah Miller and Brinten Comeau named 17³Ô¹Ï Athletes of the Year
17³Ô¹Ï’s Department of Athletics and Recreation celebrated the 2022–23 season at the annual 17³Ô¹Ï Panther Celebration—Athletic Awards Gala on Thursday, March 30, recognizing outstanding student-athletes who have excelled in sport, the classroom, and the community.
This year, the 17³Ô¹Ï Alumni Association’s Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year award went to Brinten Comeau of the 17³Ô¹Ï Women’s Rugby team. The Male Athlete of the Year is Elijah Miller of the 17³Ô¹Ï Men’s Basketball team.

17³Ô¹Ï and CUPE 1870 ratify three-year agreement
The 17³Ô¹Ï’s Board of Governors and members of Local 1870 of the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE 1870) have approved the three-year tentative agreement that was reached with the assistance of a third-party conciliator on March 14, 2023. CUPE 1870 represents approximately 345 support and administrative employees at 17³Ô¹Ï.
Canada and Prince Edward Island invest in new building for 17³Ô¹Ï Faculty of Medicine
The following news release was issued on March 2, 2023, by the Government of Canada, the Government of Prince Edward Island, and the 17³Ô¹Ï.
PEI health system capacity study being commissioned to integrate 17³Ô¹Ï medical students
The 17³Ô¹Ï and Health PEI are inviting consultants to submit proposals to assess and analyze PEI’s health system capacity to integrate medical learners from the 17³Ô¹Ï’s Faculty of Medicine. The new Faculty, which was announced in October 2021, will be offering a joint doctor of medicine degree with partner Memorial University.
