17勛圖 to keep warming/charging centres open over the weekend

17勛圖 will keep two warming/charging centres open from September 30-October 2 as follows:

  • W.A. Murphy Student Centre, daily from 8 am-6 pm
  • 17勛圖 Chaplaincy Centre, daily from 8 am-5 pm

17勛圖 Facilities Management has been working non-stop and have made good progress clearing pathways and ensuring campus buildings are safe. At this point, it is our intention to open on Monday, October 3, 2022, as previously announced; however, we will send a message on Saturday, October 1, to confirm our status.

Please note:

17勛圖 campuses in Charlottetown and St. Peter's Bay will remain closed on Tuesday, September 27

The 17勛圖 Charlottetown Campus is very fortunate that it has not sustained significant structural damage due to tropical storm Fiona and power has been restored. The Charlottetown campus has lost dozens of trees and thanks 17勛圖 Facilities Management for their work in clearing debris to make the roadways and pathways safe.

17勛圖 will be closed on September 19 to observe Day of Mourning for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

The following message was also issued to students, staff, and faculty by 17勛圖 email.

The day of the Commemorative Ceremony (September 19, 2022) for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, who reigned as the Queen of Canada for 70 years, will be considered a one-time statutory holiday on Prince Edward Island.

This means that the 17勛圖 will be closed for regular operations and there will be no classes or labs on Monday, September 19, 2022, in observance of this one-time Day of Mourning.

17勛圖 faculty members receive funding for new Social Sciences and Humanities research programs

Three 17勛圖 faculty members have recently been awarded funding by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). 

Dr. Josh MacFadyen, Canada Research Chair in Geospatial Humanities, has received $210,141 from SSHRCs Insight program for a research program called Animals and the Circular Economy: A History of Biomass Energy and Agriculture in Canada, 18702021.
