Dr. Greg Keefe, interim president and vice-chancellor of 17³Ô¹Ï, and Tamara Steele, executive director of the , raised the Pan-African flag on the campus on Wednesday, February 1, to mark Black History Month. About 25 people attended the flag-raising.

After three years of waiting, Dr. John VanLeeuwen, interim dean, Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), 17³Ô¹Ï, is in Kenya with Farmers Helping Farmers (FHF) and has three doctors of veterinary medicine (DVM) students in tow.

17³Ô¹Ï has announced that basketball great Eireann Rigby will be inducted into the 17³Ô¹Ï Sports Hall of Fame on Friday, February 3, during a pre-game ceremony. The 17³Ô¹Ï Women’s Basketball Panthers will play the Saint Mary’s University Huskies at home starting at 6:00 pm.

Every year in February we celebrate Black History Month (BHM) to provide an opportunity to share, learn, and honour the legacy of Black Canadians and their communities, but also to recognize that work remains to be done to fully integrate Black culture, history, and achievements into the Canadian fabric.

| Department Updates

On January 6, 2023, the 17³Ô¹Ï Health and Wellness Centre earned a Primer Award from Accreditation Canada, making it the first university health centre in Canada to achieve this accreditation. The Primer Award is the first step in the journey to full accreditation and ensures that the centre has the fundamentals of safety and quality in place.

Every week, 17³Ô¹Ï Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The 17³Ô¹Ï Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for January 23–30 are Aiden Rainford (women’s basketball) and Elijah Miller (men’s basketball).
