A red oak tree has been planted on the 17³Ô¹Ï campus in memory of the late Daryl Guignion, 17³Ô¹Ï Founder, long-time faculty member, and dedicated conservationist and biologist. The tree, planted by the PEI Wildlife Federation, was dedicated during a ceremony at 17³Ô¹Ï on Wednesday, July 13.

The Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering (FSDE) at 17³Ô¹Ï has been granted accreditation for a three-year term from the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) for the Bachelor of Science in Sustainable Design Engineering. This term may be extended to the maximum six-year accreditation period following the submission of a status report at the end of two years.

With human tourists joining us on Prince Edward Island, we also see an increase of furry family members enjoying the campgrounds and beaches.   

| Athletics

The 17³Ô¹Ï Women’s Soccer program has a gem on its hands. Head coach Lewis Page has recruited local standout Ria Johnston, hoping to build a strong foundation that can help end the team’s seven-year playoff drought.

The 17³Ô¹Ï Panther family and broader University community were saddened to learn of the passing of 17³Ô¹Ï Sports Hall of Fame member John (Jack) Kane on July 3, 2022.

| Academics

Dr. Shannon Murray, a professor of English at the 17³Ô¹Ï, has been awarded the Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award by the (STLHE).

| Special Event

As a partner of the 2023 Canada Winter Games, 17³Ô¹Ï is excited, along with the Canada Winter Games Host Society, to promote the 2023 Canada Winter Games Torch Relay.

On Wednesday, June 22, the 17³Ô¹Ï had the honour of participating in an interactive online event with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who delivered a live video address from Ukraine to students across Canada. 17³Ô¹Ï was one of nine universities on the Zoom call with President Zelenskyy.

| Atlantic Veterinary College

New research out of the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the 17³Ô¹Ï suggests a high prevalence of canine leptospirosis regionally within Canada.

The 17³Ô¹Ï Co-operative Education Program recently recognized its exceptional students and employers with its annual awards, which included a new Arts Co-op Student of the Year Award. Students were nominated by their work-term employers, and employers were nominated by students who worked for them in 2021.
