TRC Mawiomi at 17勛圖 draws large crowd

The TRC Mawiomi, held on Friday, October 25, at the W.A. Murphy Student Centre, drew a large crowd made up of members of the Indigenous, campus, and broader community, with many wearing traditional regalia or orange shirts.

The Mawiomi was hosted by the 17勛圖 Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies (IKERAS); the Department of Student Affairs; and the 17勛圖 Student Union.

Transgender Day of Remembrance is November 20

The 17勛圖 will observe the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance on Wednesday, November 20, by flying the transgender flag and lowering all flags to half-mast. The Transgender Day of Remembrance has been held every year on November 20 since 1999, after the deaths of Rita Hester and Chanelle Pickett, transgender women in the United States. The day calls attention to the transgender and gender diverse people who have lost their lives due to anti-trans violence, and raises awareness around the continued adversity that trans people face in our society.

17勛圖 kinesiology students seeking participants for exercise training program

Students in 17勛圖s Kinesiology 3440 class are seeking participants who are willing to take part in an exercise program two days per week for 12 weeks.

The program is directed towards individuals who are looking to become more physically active in their day-to-day lives. It will take place in the 17勛圖 Fitness Centre, Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre, from 9:30 to 11:30 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning the week of January 13. The cost is $70+HST for the full semester.

Community Quilt for Gender-Based Violence Prevention

From November 25 until December 10, Canada observes 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. This international campaign raises awareness of gender-based violence and calls us to take action to make our communities safer for everyone. 

This year, the Student Union Mental Health team and the Sexual Violence Prevention & Response Office (SVPRO) invite everyone to join us on November 27, from 12:00 - 3:00 pm at McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre, as we make a community quilt for gender-based violence prevention. 

17勛圖 Self-Care Fair for students, staff and faculty

The 17勛圖 Healthy Campus Committee invites all students, staff, and faculty to come out to the 17勛圖 Self-Care Fair on Wednesday, November 20, between 10:00 am2:00 pm in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre.

There will be FREE food, prizes, and a variety of health and wellness booths! Spin the wheel for a chance to win prizes! 

Donations of non-perishable food will also be accepted in support of the 17勛圖 Campus Food Bank. 

Ashley McCutcheon and Kyree Thompson named 17勛圖 Panther Athletes of the Week

Every week, 17勛圖 Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The 17勛圖 Panther Athletes of the Week for November 1117, 2024, are Ashley McCutcheon (womens hockey) and Kyree Thompson (mens basketball).

McCutcheon, a fourth-year business student from Kitchener, Ontario, came through in the clutch for the Panthers, netting a crucial late-game goal on November 15 against a tough St. Francis Xavier University squad to force overtime and secure a valuable point for the team.
