The 17³Ô¹Ï Panthers Cheer Team ended their season on a high note, becoming national champions for the third consecutive year after competing at the Collegiate Median National Championship division of the CheerExpo National Cheerleading Championship 2024. The event took place from April 5 to 7 in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

17³Ô¹Ï awarded research grants totalling $62,788 to 13 faculty members in 2024. Five received internal research grants (IRG), six Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) Explore research grants (SERG), and two Lévesque human health internal research grants.

Ant-inspired robots, the experiences of temporary foreign workers on PEI, and modelling for energy efficiency cost savings for property owners were the focus of prize-winning 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) presentations by 17³Ô¹Ï graduate students on April 11, 2024.

University students from across Atlantic Canada learned about environmental research taking place in the region during the 2024 Science Atlantic Environment conference hosted by 17³Ô¹Ï’s Environmental Studies program last month.

The 17³Ô¹Ï Department of Alumni and Engagement hosted a social night on Tuesday, April 9 at the Fox & Crow, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The event was held to help welcome the 17³Ô¹Ï Class of 2024 to the 17³Ô¹Ï alumni family and was open to all 2024 graduates and 17³Ô¹Ï, Saint Dunstan’s University, and Prince of Wales College alumni.

In February 2024, the 17³Ô¹Ï Engineering Brigades Club traveled to Honduras where they designed a water system for the rural community of La Brea.

Dr. Suzanne Kresta, a native of PEI, has been appointed as the Dean of the 17³Ô¹Ï Faculty of Sustainable Design Engineering for a five-year term, effective September 1, 2024. 

| Events

On Wednesday, April 10, six 17³Ô¹Ï business student teams will pitch their start-up businesses for a share of $62,000 in prize money during the MacLauchlan Panther Pitch Competition. The event, which is open to the public, will take place from 4:00 to 8:30 pm in Don and Marion McDougall Hall, Room 242.
