In a message to the University community, President Keefe announced that the 17³Ô¹Ï Senate has decided that teaching and learning for the 2022 Winter Academic Semester will continue to be delivered online until February 27, 2022.

While 17³Ô¹Ï’s track and field program has found success on the track, it is in the field where they anticipate making the biggest improvement.

Dr. Katherine Gottschall-Pass, interim vice-president academic and research at 17³Ô¹Ï, has announced the appointment of Dr. Jean Mitchell as the next UNESCO Chair in Island Studies and Sustainability at the University. Dr. Mitchell is an associate professor of anthropology at 17³Ô¹Ï with extensive research and project experience in Indonesia, India, and the South Pacific nations of Kiribati, Solomon Islands, and Vanuatu.

Dr. Katie Hoddinott, assistant professor of small animal surgery, Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), 17³Ô¹Ï, has received the PEI Veterinary Medical Association’s (PEIVMA) Leadership Award.

The members of 17³Ô¹Ï’s E-Learning team—Jason Hogan, Joel MacDonald, and Kristy McKinney—have been awarded COVID Warrior Coins for their work to support faculty members when 17³Ô¹Ï had to switch very quickly to online learning in the middle of the 2020 winter semester because of the COVID-19 pandemic. They also received the award for their involvement in the re-boot of teaching methods, course design, and use of educational technologies required for the 2020–2021 academic year.

17³Ô¹Ï’s women’s hockey team is reinforcing their blueline for the stretch run. Twenty-one-year-old Wasyn Rice joins the Panthers, playing defence and bringing a wealth of experience that should pay dividends during the second half of the season and when they host the 2022 U Sports Women’s Hockey Championship currently scheduled from March 24–27.
