17³Ô¹Ï faculty members awarded SSHRC Exchange Publication Awards

Dr. Linyuan Guo-Brennan and Dr. Josh MacFadyen, faculty members at the 17³Ô¹Ï, have been awarded SSHRC Exchange Publication Awards. Two $5,000 awards are given out annually to support the publication of manuscripts written or edited by 17³Ô¹Ï faculty in the social sciences and humanities. Both books will be published by Island Studies Press.

New book from Island Studies Press profiles PEI women veterans

Award-winning author Katherine Dewar is launching a new book about women veterans. shares the incredible stories of women from Prince Edward Island who served in the Second World War, from fire-watching during bombing raids in blacked-out London to surviving the sinking of a transport ship in the Mediterranean. Published by Island Studies Press, the book will be launched on October 23 in Charlottetown and November 7 in Summerside.

Government of PEI supports nursing program, health centre expansion, and new faculty of medicine at 17³Ô¹Ï

Today, the Honourable Dennis King, Premier of Prince Edward Island, and Dr. Alaa Abd-El-Aziz, President and Vice-Chancellor of the 17³Ô¹Ï, announced the expansion of the Faculty of Nursing and 17³Ô¹Ï Health and Wellness Centre, as well as the establishment of a new Faculty of Medicine at 17³Ô¹Ï. They were joined by Dr. Margaret Steele, Dean of Medicine at the Memorial University of Newfoundland. The two universities will develop a joint Doctor of Medicine degree.

It’s home-opener weekend for 17³Ô¹Ï Women’s and Men’s Hockey! 17³Ô¹Ï Women’s Rugby is also looking to improve its 2–2 season record with a home game on MacAdam Field in 17³Ô¹Ï Alumni Canada Games Place.

The weekend kicks off on Friday night when the men’s hockey team hosts the University of New Brunswick at 7 pm in the MacLauchlan Arena. Head coach Forbes MacPherson is looking forward to putting his young team to the test.

Dear Members of the 17³Ô¹Ï Community,

I am writing to advise you that earlier today the PEI Chief Public Health Office (PEI CPHO) shared with us the news of a positive COVID-19 test result on the 17³Ô¹Ï campus.

Dr. David Reid retires from 17³Ô¹Ï Health and Wellness Centre

After providing health care to students at the 17³Ô¹Ï for the past 30 years, Dr. David Reid has retired from the 17³Ô¹Ï Health and Wellness Centre.

Dr. Reid began practising at the health centre at 17³Ô¹Ï in 1991, making him one of the longest serving doctors on the campus. At the same time, he worked at walk-in clinics and maintained his family practice in Sherwood.
