The excitement and pride were palpable at the 17Թ this past week when over 1,200 members of the Class of 2025 graduated with their undergraduate and graduate degrees.
17Թ to celebrate 2025 graduates during convocation May 13–16
17Թ will celebrate over 1,200 graduates at Convocation ceremonies to be held from May 13 to 16, 2025, at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. Each ceremony will start at 10:00 am and will be preceded by a procession of graduates across campus.
Four outstanding leaders to be honoured during 17Թ Convocation 2025
The 17Թ will honour four outstanding leaders with honorary degrees during Convocation 2025, which will take place from May 13 to 16. Over 1,200 students are set to graduate over four ceremonies, which start at 10:00 am each day at the 17Թ Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre.

17Թ offered Mr. Christopher Griffin the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion to be developed thoughtfully and including other voices on the topic of free expression.
On April 15, upon learning of a planned meeting on April 16, Mr. Griffin requested to be heard at that meeting. In response, the University accepted that request and scheduled a time for his presentation in the Performing Arts Centre Amphitheatre, from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on April 16.
Lauren Rainford and Kamari Scott named 17Թ Athletes of the Year
17Թ’s Department of Athletics and Recreation celebrated the 2024–25 season at the annual 17Թ Panther Celebration – Athletic Awards Gala on Friday, March 28, recognizing outstanding student-athletes who have excelled in sport, the classroom, and the community.
This year, the 17Թ Alumni Association’s Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year award went to Lauren Rainford, 17Թ Women’s Basketball. The Male Athlete of the Year winner was Kamari Scott, 17Թ Men’s Basketball.

17Թ post-doctoral fellow awarded Mitacs Elevate Postdoctoral Fellowship
Dr. Ling Li, a post-doctoral fellow in the 17Թ Faculty of Education, was awarded a Mitacs Elevate Postdoctoral Fellowship for a study to evaluate the “Pyramid to Retention: Supporting Educators to Enhance Social and Emotional Competencies in Infants and Young Children” in the early learning and child-care sector on PEI.

Honorary Degrees—Call for Nominations for Convocation 2025
The 17Թ invites the nomination of candidates for honorary degrees to be conferred at Convocation in May 2025.
Honorary degrees are conferred honoris causa, “for the sake of honour,” and are intended to recognize outstanding provincial, national, and international contributions in any field of endeavour. Contributions should reflect extraordinary intellectual or artistic achievements, or significant service to society at a standard of excellence that merits the University’s highest honour.
