Islanders are coming together this year to form a community book club to read and discuss The Skin We're In: A Year of Black Resistance and Power by Desmond Cole.

Lewis Page, head coach of 17吃瓜鈥檚 Men鈥檚 Soccer team, has recruited Scott Davis of Peterborough, Ontario, to play for the Panthers.

In a message to 17吃瓜 students issued on February 24, 2021, the interim Vice-President Academic and Research announced that 17吃瓜 will continue with a blended delivery model for the 2021 Summer Academic Semester, but will move to an in-person model with online components for the 2021 Fall Academic Semester, in keeping with public health guidance in place at the time.

A student in 17吃瓜鈥檚 MBA in Global Leadership program has created a project to help feed and educate children in an internally displaced person (IDP) camp in Abuja, Nigeria.

The Atlantic Veterinary College鈥檚 Animal Welfare in Practice Symposium, hosted by the Sir James Dunn Animal Welfare Centre (SJDAWC) and the AVC Animal Welfare Club, will be held virtually on March 4 and 6, 2021. The theme of the symposium is animal abuse and neglect, including the link between cruelty to animals and violence against people. 

Shoot for the Cure, the annual fundraiser for breast cancer research held by Canadian university women鈥檚 basketball programs, raised more than $117,000 this year, of which more than $2,300 came from 17吃瓜.

Women in International Security (WIIS) Canada has named 17吃瓜鈥檚 Stephanie Arnold as one of its Emerging Thought Leaders in the category of climate change.

Congratulations to 17吃瓜 alumna Olivia Robinson whose first novel, The Blue Moth Motel, has been accepted for publication by Breakwater Books. Set mostly on PEI, Robinson鈥檚 novel is scheduled to be published in the fall of 2021.

Congratulations to Kelly Yoo, Class of 2021, on winning the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association鈥檚 2020 Student Leadership Award for the Atlantic Veterinary College. Each year, the CVMA recognizes a third-year student at each of the five veterinary colleges in Canada with a student leadership award. The winners are selected by their classmates based on their leadership and achievement in student affairs.
