17Թ’s Dr. Ann Braithwaite named a 3M National Teaching Fellow
The 17Թ is excited and proud to share the news that Dr. Ann Braithwaite, professor of Diversity and Social Justice Studies in the Faculty of Arts has been named a 2021 3M National Teaching Fellow by the Society for Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE) and 3M Canada.
The Island Lecture Series celebrates Poetry Month
The April edition of the Island Lecture Series will celebrate Poetry Month and features two Island poets in conversation with a third. Laurie Brinklow and Bren Simmers will read from their new books, My Island’s the house I sleep in at night (Island Studies Press, 2021) and If, When (Gaspereau Press, 2021), in a conversation hosted by Richard Lemm. Topics will range from the role of story, place, and history in their poetry to their own poetic practices. There will be an opportunity for questions from the audience.
An armful of honours for 17Թ history student Rachel Hamilton
Rachel Hamilton, a fourth-year history major at 17Թ, is ending her year with an impressive list of honours.
She has been awarded the Brendan Curley Memorial Award, which goes to the 17Թ student going into their fourth year with the highest cumulative mark in the department’s core courses. The award’s value is $2,335.
COVID-19 Island Insights for Prince Edward Island now available
The entry for Prince Edward Island is now available . The series aims to bring together critical assessments of how specific islands around the world have performed during the COVID-19 pandemic, and the extent to which their recovery plans are able to promote long term resilience and sustainability.
Panther Women’s Rugby recruits versatile rugger and kicker Charlotte Branchflower
The 17Թ Women’s Rugby team has recruited Charlotte Branchflower to play for the Panthers in 2021–2022. Branchflower is a talented 17-year-old fly-half from Halifax, Nova Scotia.
Assistant coach James Voye says Branchflower will be an essential piece to the Panthers’ roster as the team looks compete with the elite talent in the AUS, such as the Acadia Axewomen and the St. Francis Xavier X-Women.
Final Day of Winter Semester Classes
April 9 is the last day of classes for the 2021 Winter Academic Semester.
Examinations will be held from April12–22 (Monday–Thursday).

Women’s Hockey recruits blueliner Elizabeth Beiersdorfer
Bruce Donaldson, coach of the 17Թ Women’s Hockey team, has recruited defender Elizabeth Beiersdorfer from Orleans, Ontario, to play for the Panthers in 2021–2022. Beirsdorfer played from 2018–2020 with the Cornwall Typhoons (Midget AA) and later with the Ottawa Lady 67s of the Junior Women’s Hockey League (JWHL).
