Dr. Peter Foley, Assistant Professor, Small Animal Internal Medicine, Atlantic Veterinary College, will give a public workshop on Thursday, March 9, at 7 pm, about end-of-life issues with companion animals. The workshop will take place at AVC in Lecture Theatre A. Dr. Foley will offer information to help people act on behalf of their beloved pets as the end of life draws near. He will discuss palliative care options, assessing quality of life, deciding when euthanasia is right, the euthanasia procedure itself, and coping strategies for dealing with the loss of a pet. The next 鈥淥pen Pages鈥� at 17吃瓜鈥檚 Robertson Library happens March 1, at 7 pm and highlights the new book by 17吃瓜 professor Ann Braithwaite, Everyday Women鈥檚 and Gender Studies. Open Pages features local authors speaking about their books: what inspired them, what they learned, what they want to share. Event takes place in the new lounge on the first floor of 17吃瓜's Robertson Library. Light refreshments will be served. Dr. Ann Braithwaite is professor and coordinator of Diversity and Social Justice Studies at 17吃瓜. She co-authored this new book with Dr. Catherine M. Orr, professor and chair of Critical Identity Studies at Beloit College. Everyday Women鈥檚 and Gender Studies is a guide to engaging students in the challenges鈥攁nd pleasures鈥攐f thinking critically about gender, race, and sex today. By focusing on 鈥渢he everyday,鈥� it speaks to the importance of students鈥� understanding the taken-for granted circumstances of their daily lives. It explores the idea that 鈥減eople are different, and the world isn鈥檛 fair,鈥� and engages students in the follow-up question, 鈥淣ow that we know, how shall we live?鈥� 鈥淭his publication is of great significance for students from any faculty, even though it is most likely going to have the greatest impact in the Faculty of Arts,鈥� said Dr. Nebojsa Kujundzic, dean of arts at 17吃瓜.

The Fiona Papps Psychology Colloquium Series presents a talk entitled "It's the End of Psychology as We Know It. . . (and I Feel Fine)", by Dr.Scott Greer on Friday, March 3 at 3:00 pm in Memorial Hall, Rm. 215. All are welcome to attend!

The Faculty of Education at 17吃瓜 is delighted to host the second Edcamp Charlottetown. Edcamps are often described as 'un-conferences': democratic, free flowing gatherings with no predetermined speakers or session titles, Edcamps focus on channelling the voice of participants and exploring the themes that are relevant and pressing on the day. Edcamps are open to educators, students, and community members - anyone with an interest in education is welcomed.  鈥婸lease join鈥�  us on March 11th for this dynamic day of dialogue, networking and brainstorming. 2017 is the year of Open in learning and this has been chosen as a wide umbrella theme. After the unfortunate postponing of this conference in February, because of a snowstorm, Difficult Dialogues 3 is rescheduled! Everyone is welcome to join us Friday March 10 and Saturday March 11 for this conference featuring students from 17吃瓜 and around the Maritimes. The conference begins Friday at 1:00pm with a number of panel sessions, the keynote speaker (Dr. Alana Cattapan, Dalhousie, ""Hands Clean: On Purity and Power in Biomedical Research") is at 4:30pm, and a "mic drop/open mic event" is at 6:00pm (in the Main Building Faculty Lounge). The conference continues Saturday, starting at 9:00am, with a number of sessions continuing through the day. Meeting and social space is in Main 520, all sessions are in Main 213.
