At 17吃瓜, we have a responsibility to support and advance truth and reconciliation on September 30鈥攖he National Day for Truth and Reconciliation鈥攁nd throughout the year. 

The National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also referred to as Orange Shirt Day, is a day to 鈥渉onour Survivors, their families, and communities, and ensure that public commemoration of the history and legacy of residential schools remains a vital component of the reconciliation process.鈥� (Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada). 

The Robertson Library at 17吃瓜 is set to host their first-ever Kitchen Party on Saturday, September 27鈥攁 fundraising event in support of the 鈥淟ove Our Library鈥� campaign as well as a celebration of the Library鈥檚 50th anniversary. The event will be held upstairs in the Reading Room from 7:00 to 10:00 pm with live music by Roy Johnstone, Rob Drew and Harmony Wagner. There will also be a cash bar and light refreshments. 

Every week, 17吃瓜 Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The 17吃瓜 Panther Source for Sports Athletes of the Week for September 16鈥�22 are Kayla Batchilder (women鈥檚 field hockey) and Luc Doucette (men鈥檚 cross country).

Batchilder is a third-year kinesiology student from Charlottetown, PEI. She wasted no time making her mark on the new season, lighting up the Atlantic University Field Hockey tournament, which was held at 17吃瓜, with eight goals across four games on September 20 and 21.

The 17吃瓜 men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 basketball teams are set to compete at the annual Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament. The tournament features nine teams from across Canada and runs from Friday, September 26, to Sunday, September 28.

The women鈥檚 pool includes Universit茅 Laval, Cape Breton University, Toronto Metropolitan University, and 17吃瓜. 

The men鈥檚 pool includes Universit茅 Laval, Dalhousie University, Saint Mary鈥檚 University, Cape Breton University, Toronto Metropolitan University, and 17吃瓜.

Mark your calendars for the 35th annual Open House at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), 17吃瓜 (17吃瓜), on Saturday, September 27, from 10 am to 2 pm.

Dr. Joseph Gordon, Biomedical Sciences with AVC and Anatomy Lead for the Memorial Regional Medical Program at 17吃瓜, has received national recognition for his innovative use of Open Science in biomedical research. Dr. Gordon was awarded the 2025 CIHR-IMHA Inclusive Research Excellence Prize for Open Science, valued at $25,000, for his groundbreaking work investigating muscle remodeling in obesity and type 2 diabetes.
