In keeping with one of the Institute of Island Studies鈥� goals to see Prince Edward Island through the lens of other islands, PEI鈥檚 Chief Justice, David Jenkins, will share with Islanders what he鈥檚 learned as a member of Bermuda鈥檚 Constituency Boundaries Commission. 

The 17吃瓜 is proud to announce the creation of the Barb C. Mullaly Memorial Athletic Award in memory of the late Barb Mullaly, former director of athletics at 17吃瓜. The inaugural award was presented to third-year science student Kelly Green, a member of the women鈥檚 soccer team, at the 17吃瓜 Athletic Awards Gala held on Saturday, April 1, 2017. 

Dr. Neb Kujundzic, dean of Arts and a professor of philosophy at 17吃瓜, delivered a guest lecture last week on the relationship between humanity, work, and technology (particularly robotics) and its implications for education to the Department of Philosophy at the University of Malta (UMalta).

More than 270 young scientists from 32 Island schools will present 196 science projects at the 2017 PEI Science Fair. 

17吃瓜鈥檚 Department of Athletics and Recreation celebrated the 2016鈥�17 season at the 48th annual 17吃瓜 Athletic Awards Gala on Saturday, April 1, recognizing outstanding student athletes who have excelled in sport, the classroom, and serving the community. The 17吃瓜 Alumni Association鈥檚 Outstanding Athlete of the Year awards went to men鈥檚 soccer fullback Mark Ashlee and women鈥檚 hockey goalie Marie-Soleil Deschenes.

For Dr. Martha Mellish, 鈥渋t鈥檚 all horses all the time.鈥�

A member of AVC鈥檚 Class of 2005, Dr. Mellish recently joined the Atlantic Veterinary College as an assistant professor in the College鈥檚 Ambulatory Equine Service (AES), responsible for teaching veterinary students, and providing veterinary and theriogenology services to AES clients.

Three years ago, Dr. Etienne C么t茅, professor of cardiology at AVC, was asked to co-edit the eighth edition of the Textbook of Veterinary Internal Medicine, widely recognized as the most authoritative textbook for small animal internal medicine.

Dr. Peter Childs will be the first of two keynote speakers at , presented by E365, held at the 17吃瓜 School of Sustainable Design Engineering on April 21 to 23.

The 2017 Farmers Helping Farmers-AVC three-week senior veterinary student course in Kenya was a resounding success. Over 500 smallholder dairy farmers received education and services in cattle health management; over 650 animals were given individual treatments or health management interventions; and another 130 animals were treated for identified health concerns.

Dr. Alfonso L贸pez, professor emeritus, and Dr. Shannon Martinson, assistant professor, AVC鈥檚 Department of Pathology and Microbiology, are authors of a chapter in the recently published sixth edition of Pathologic Basis of Veterinary Disease.
