The bargaining committees for both the University and the 17³Ô¹Ï Faculty Association (17³Ô¹Ï FA) met separately and jointly several times with the government-appointed conciliation officer over the past month. Conciliation is a normal part of the bargaining process, aimed at helping the parties achieve a negotiated collective agreement.

In the lead up to the joint meetings which were held on October 4, 5, and 12, the University believes we came to the table with a modest set of proposals to amend the collective agreement. We have appreciated the opportunity to discuss our proposals and the proposals from the 17³Ô¹Ï FA with the conciliator, and especially want to ensure that Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and Indigenization are front and centre.

We have made some good progress. The 17³Ô¹Ï FA have presented a substantial number of proposals and we still have a way to go in our discussions.

The University is committed to achieving a negotiated collective agreement with our valued faculty, sessional instructors, clinical nursing instructors, and librarians. We will continue to share information with the 17³Ô¹Ï community by email. To see this and previous updates, please visit upei.ca/labour. If anyone has questions, please email labour@upei.ca.
