Almost all universities across Canada have collective agreements with their faculty and staff, and negotiations are a routine part of the life cycle of these agreements. The 17³Ô¹Ï has collective agreements with four different unions (six bargaining units). We are committed to negotiating collective agreements that serve the broad interests of students and the University community for the long term.
During 2026, the 17³Ô¹Ï expects to be engaged in the process of negotiating new Collective Agreements with the 17³Ô¹Ï Faculty Association (17³Ô¹ÏFA BU#1 and BU#2), CUPE 1870, CUPE 501, IBEW 1928, and PSAC 86000.
The University will make every effort to keep employees, students, and community members informed about the collective bargaining process. Please refer to these pages for updates and access to resources.
Last month, 17³Ô¹Ï reached a tentative agreement with IBEW 1928. This new collective agreement has now been ratified by both parties and is in place. We are grateful to the bargaining teams for their hard work and their constructive, respectful approach to negotiations.
In this update, the University advised the 17³Ô¹Ï community that it has received "Notice to Bargain" from CUPE 501 and the 17³Ô¹Ï Faculty Association, Bargaining Unit #1.
In this update on collective bargaining, 17³Ô¹Ï announces that the University and IBEW 1928 have reached a tentative agreement, subject to ratification.
