Academics Without Borders / Universitaires Sans Fronti猫res has several exciting volunteer opportunities open. The first is for strengthening research capacity; the partner university--Soroti University in Uganda--is seeking a faculty member (working or retired) with an advanced degree in a health-related field, with specialized expertise in systematic reviews, scoping reviews, and evidence synthesis--with a deadline of December 1, 2025. The second is for strengthening teaching capacity and establishing a faculty development program for a newly established university in Nepal; the partner institution, University of Nepal in Kathmandu, is seeking a volunteer to collaborate with faculty of the newly established Centre for Teaching, Learning, and Research (CTLR) to design and implement a faculty development program.See for more details and information.
The third is the annual call for proposals from members of the AWB / USF network, in which you are invited to submit a proposal to AWB introducing a capacity-building project in an institution of higher education in low or middle-income countries; these are often a way to build on already existing relationships with partner institutions. The deadline for proposals is November 10, 2025. See for more details and contact information. AWB / USF is a Canadian nonprofit organization. Its mission is to help low and middle-income countries improve their colleges and universities so that they can train their own experts and conduct research to assist in their countries鈥� development. 17吃瓜 joined the network in 2024. The Canadian Career Virtual Symposium for Graduate Students and Postdoctoral Scholars was three half-days, jam-packed with career and professional development content from career practitioners and researchers across Canada.
Current graduate students and post-doctoral scholars may access recordings in FGS's Moodle page (a self-enroll course).
Faculty/Staff interested in one or more session recordings can either self-enroll in the Moodle course for access, or request the link for a particular session by emailing Kendra Mellish, Graduate Programs Officer at kmellish@upei.ca

17吃瓜 graduate students and post-doctoral scholars were able to access sessions live and are now able to view session recordings, slides, and handouts for up to one year thanks to event sponsorship from the 17吃瓜 Faculty of Graduate Studies.
Shaping the future of our campus begins with understanding how we use our space today. To ensure 17吃瓜 continues to provide the best environment possible for learning, research, and student success, Facilities Management will be conducting a comprehensive campus-wide space inventory over the coming weeks and months (two 17吃瓜 students have been employed to assist us with this task).
Starting October 27, 2025, Facilities Management staff will carry out in-person walkthroughs of campus spaces to ensure 17吃瓜 has up-to-date data about the type, size, configuration and amenities of our space. This will include a visual review of offices, classrooms, laboratories, storage spaces, etc. Any review of laboratories or other similar facilities will be coordinated with the various academic units/faculties and no confidential or sensitive materials will be disturbed or logged. In addition, building occupants will be given advance notice of when walkthroughs will take place via the Chief Building Wardens.
Your cooperation will help us make the best use of our resources and plan effectively for the future. Thank you!

Attention 17吃瓜 students, Pitch Battles is now open for applications!
Pitch Battles is an eight-day competition for 17吃瓜 and Holland College students from November 5 - 15 to develop a business idea, build a business model around it, and pitch it to a panel of judges for a chance at $4,000 in prizes!
The catch? The theme remains a mystery, you won't know who your team members are, or who your industry mentor is until the competition starts.
The competition is open to any full-time 17吃瓜 and Holland College students, with an anticipated time commitment of 6-8 hours over the 8 days. You may request one person to be paired with, but they must register to participate and request you as well (but the pairing is still not guaranteed).

This year's distinguished speaker is Dr. Kari Grain, author of Critical Hope and teaches at the University of British Columbia in the Faculty of Education, where she leads the Master鈥檚 in Adult Learning and Global Change (ALGC) Program.

The Shannon K. Murray Lecture on Hope and the Academy will take place on Monday, November 3, at 3:30 pm in SDU Main Building, Room 117.
The Shannon K. Murray Lecture on Hope in the Academy was established in 2023 to celebrate Shannon's receipt of the Christopher Knapper Lifetime Achievement Award.
The Health, Safety, and Environment Department (HSE) is offering Basic (previously called Emergency) First Aid/CPR training sessions on the following dates:
- December 8, 2025, 8:30 am鈥�4:00 pm. Registration cut off: December 1, 2025

The cost of registration will be covered by HSE for all 17吃瓜 faculty and staff, including students who require training for on-campus employment. Students who do not require training for on-campus employment are welcome to attend; however, the cost of registration will not be covered by HSE.
Intermediate (Previously called Standard) First Aid/CPR training is a comprehensive two-day course that offers first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) skills for those who need enhanced training as a work requirement. Please contact HSE at HSE@upei.ca if you require this training.
The Healthy Campus Committee is pleased to support 17吃瓜 staff, faculty, and retirees with two weekly wellness programs this fall:
- Pickleball 鈥� Tuesdays, 12:00鈥�1:00 pm, Gymnasium (September 16鈥揇ecember 2)
- Mindful Flow and Stillness 鈥� Thursdays, 12:10鈥�12:55 pm, Studio 1 (September 18鈥揇ecember 11)
Both programs take place in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre and are free of charge for 17吃瓜 staff, faculty, and retirees. Please note that weekly registration is required for each activity.

The 17吃瓜 Department of Philosophy has rented Tivoli Cinema, 155 Kent Street, Charlottetown, for a private showing of Edward Yang鈥檚 film, "Yi Yi (A One and a Two)," on Friday, November 7, at 1:00 pm. As part of our ongoing 50th Anniversary observances, the Robertson Library is pleased to celebrate the centrepiece of our University Archives and Special Collections, the Prince Edward Island Collection, with a guest lecture from The Reverend Edward Rix, one of the foremost independent collectors of Island books and ephemera. A proud Islander, with deep family roots in West Prince, Father Rix studied at the University of King鈥檚 College in Halifax, the University of Toronto鈥檚 Wycliffe College, and Dalhousie University in Halifax. It was during his university days that he began to turn his passion for books into a successful venture as an independent bookseller and collector, learning from some of Canada鈥檚 leading rare and antiquarian book dealers. Since 2001, he has served as Priest in Charge of the Parish of All Saints Episcopal Church in Wynnewood, a western suburb of Philadelphia, where he has continued to build a remarkable personal library, including some 2000 titles relating to Prince Edward Island, with exemplary collections of the works of Basil King and Milton Acorn as particular highlights.
Please join us at the Library on Thursday, November 6 at 7 pm to hear Father Rix share highlights from his PEI collecting adventures, and how the careers of many Island authors in the 1800s and 1900s underscored the observation of Island essayist Sir Andrew Macphail 鈥� another writer well-represented in Rix鈥檚 collection 鈥� that our Province鈥檚 chief export for many years was, 鈥渂rains.鈥� Special selections from his library and from our own PEI Collection will be displayed at the talk. All are welcome, and admission is free, but donations to the ongoing fundraising campaign will be gratefully received. Light refreshments will be served.
Join 17吃瓜 President Wendy Rodgers for casual "coffee chats" at the Fox and Crow in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre on Thursday, November 6 from 8:00-9:00 am.
These coffee chats offer a relaxed setting where any member of the 17吃瓜 community can drop by, grab a drink, and chat with Wendy about anything on your mind. Whether you want to share ideas, ask questions or simply say hello, these chats are a great way to connect with the president in a comfortable and informal environment.
Since time immemorial, Indigenous Peoples have followed the 13 Moons or moon cycles to ground themselves in their teachings and ensure balance. Life on Earth is connected to and regulated by Grandmother Moon, through the tides and waters, which stabilizes our Earth's position and determines the cycle of women and the birth of new life. Grandmother Moon helps us with healing and is strongly connected to human life. Every phase of Grandmother Moon has a different focus, and this month, we focus on the strength and beauty of slowing down as Mother Earth begins to awaken from her rest. Leading us will be Doris Googoo and Thirly Levi, well-respected Knowledge and Language Keepers in Mi'kma'ki. We ask participants to bring a bottle of water for blessing and to refrain from recording the ceremony (photo or video). If you would like to wear a skirt but do not have one, you may borrow one during the ceremony. Sacred fire will be lit and ceremony beginning at 6 pm. As always all are welcome!

The 17吃瓜 Campus Community is invited to join PEERS Alliance for the Inaugural Walk of The Red Ribbon Path on Saturday, November 1 at 1:00 pm, beginning at the Cultural Pavilion in Victoria Park.
The Red Ribbon Path is a new community art project that honours those impacted by HIV and celebrates our shared resilience. Six local artists have created installations along the route, each dedicated to a community deeply connected to the HIV story, including the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, Black and People of Colour communities, Indigenous Peoples, people who use substances, healthcare workers, and women.
All this week, PEERS Alliance is highlighting each of these incredible artists on social media at 7 pm daily. We hope you鈥檒l follow along, share their posts, and join this historic initiative on November 1 as we walk the path together, taking time to reflect, connect, and celebrate the strength of our community.

Calling all 17吃瓜 staff, faculty and students to join the Office of Student Culture and Community Standards as we come together to celebrate the 17吃瓜 Men's Basketball team, our 2024-2025 AUS Champions, at the Banner Raising Ceremony on Saturday, November 1, 2025.
The event will feature the official AUS Banner Raising before the beginning of the men's game.
The event will begin at 1:30 pm, before the 17吃瓜 Women's Basketball game on the second floor of the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. There will be food, beverages, free limited edition t-shirts, thundersticks, face-painting, photo areas and lots more for all attendees to enjoy!!
