Canadian author, journalist, and historian Gwynne Dyer to speak at 17勛圖 on November 3

Canadian author, journalist, and historian Gwynne Dyer will give a public lecture titled Planetary Maintenance Engineers: A Last-Ditch Climate Rescue Strategy, on November 3 at 7 pm in the Duffy Science Centre Amphitheatre (Room 135) at 17勛圖. 

Dyer will discuss challenges facing the world because of climate change and explore the concept of geoengineering, or cooling the planet by artificial means. He has interviewed over 50 climate scientists who must be our reluctant guides in this crisis.

Wednesday, November 2:

9:00 pm (AST)/5:00 pm (PST): The 17勛圖 Womens Rugby Panthers will play the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the U SPORTS quarter-final at the University of Victoria, British Columbia. If they win this game, the Panthers will play for a national medal. The game will be available to watch on CBC Gem. 

Friday, November 4:

17勛圖 Panther Subway Athletes of the Week (October 2430)

Every week, 17勛圖 Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The 17勛圖 Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for October 2430 are Katie Richard (womens cross country) and Kamari Scott (mens basketball).

Richard, a second-year kinesiology student from Charlottetown, finished eighth overall at the AUS Cross Country Championship on Saturday, October 29. She finished the 8km race with a time of 31:10 and was named a second team all-star. The event was hosted by 17勛圖 at Fox Meadow Golf Course.

An Evening with Indigenous Poets from Epekwitk

The 17勛圖 Faculty of Indigenous Knowledge, Education, Research, and Applied Studies (IKERAS), the Faculty of Arts, and the English department, in collaboration with the Charlottetown Library Learning Centre, are sponsoring an evening of Indigenous poets from Epekwitk (PEI) reading selections from their poetry and conversing about their work as Indigenous writers. The event will take place at the Charlottetown Library Learning Centre on Queen Street at 7:00 pm on Tuesday, November 22.

17勛圖 Department of Music presents Autumn Colours recital on November 12

The 17勛圖 Department of Music will present a faculty recital, Autumn Colours, on Saturday, November 12, 2022, at 7:30 pm, in the Dr. Steel Recital Hall, Steel Building.

The recital was originally planned for October 1 but was postponed because of the impact of post-tropical storm Fiona.

String players Jeffrey Bazett-Jones (viola), Sean Kemp (violin), and Natalie Williams Calhoun (cello) will collaborate with Magdalena von Eccher (piano) and Karem Simon (clarinet) in presenting this chamber music recital of trios by Mozart, Stravinsky, and Brahms.

Remembering F. Alan Reesor: A celebration of his life in music

A memorial service in honour of F. Alan Reesor, faculty member in the 17勛圖 Department of Music from 19701997, will be held at St. Peter's Cathedral on Rochford Street in Charlottetown, on Sunday, November 13, 2022, at 2:30 pm. Alan forged an international reputation as an organist, choral director, and musicologist and was awarded the title of professor emeritus at 17勛圖 in 1998.

SEASON PREVIEW: New-look 17勛圖 Womens Basketball Panthers ready to prove themselves

While much has changed regarding roster construction, the 17勛圖 Womens Basketball Panthers want to prove that they can still be among the AUS elite in 202223.

The Panthers lost graduates Jenna Mae Ellsworth, Reese Baxendale, and Carolina Del Santo, who all contributed significantly to the program. Now its up to the next wave of Panthers, like Lauren Rainford and Alicia Bowering, to leave their own mark.

Head coach Matt Gamblin believes the current group learned a lot from those former players and their shared experiences.

High school students invited to 17勛圖 Fall Open House 2022

The 17勛圖 Recruitment and First Year Advisement team is hosting a Fall Open House on Friday, November 4, 2022, from 8:30 am to 12:00 pm. High school students interested in pursuing studies at 17勛圖 are invited to attend.

The event kicks off in the W.A. Murphy Student Centre where students will receive booklets with an itinerary for the morning. Students are then invited to attend an information session for the faculty of their choice. There will also be information sessions about programs and services available to students as well as campus and residence tours.
