External Engagement Officer - AVC Deans Office - Atlantic Veterinary College
$76,457 to $84,766 per annum
March 1, 2026 to February 28, 2028 (Term may be reduced or extended depending on performance, available funding, and departmental requirements)
The Dean’s Office at the Atlantic Veterinary College is currently accepting applications for a full-time External Engagement Officer. This position reports to the Dean of the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) and works collaboratively with the 17³Ô¹Ï Director, Communications and University Relations, and the 17³Ô¹Ï Department of Development & Alumni Engagement.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategic Development and Implementation
Develop and implement high-level, long-term communications and engagement strategies to raise AVC's profile locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally
Promote College's initiatives, successes, and world-class standing to internal and external audience
Foster positive interest in AVC expertise, programs, and initiatives
Develop marketing strategies for specific College projects
Prepare and manage budgets to implement communications plans for targeted initiatives
Identify success indicators and report outcomes of communication, marketing, and engagement strategies
Oversee the development and implementation of:
Annual event calendar and budget (led by event planner)
Annual wellness activities plan (led by the Wellness Facilitator, in coordination with the Director of Wellness
Sponsorship targets and off-site activities (led by off-site external engagement officer, in coordination with the Department)
Relations with Media and External Stakeholder
Develop and manage the college's social media platforms and website, including content creation (including videos)
Monitor public communications relevant to the college, manage issues, and identify media opportunities
Liaise with media and nurture relations with media professionals to aid in the promotion of AVC stories and feature ideas
Provide consultation, advice, and coaching to AVC spokespersons.
Coordinate and contribute to the production and dissemination of promotional materials for the College
Prepare media interviews, speaking notes, presentations, and reports for the Dean of AVC
Management and special projects
- Manage the budgets related to the AVC Engagement Office.
Manage and supervise the College's event planner
Manage and supervise the Wellness Facilitator in coordination with the Director of Wellness
Manage and supervise the off-site external engagement and advancement officer, with input from the 17³Ô¹Ï Department of Development & Alumni Engagement
Prepare and present annual reports on the finances and outcomes of the AVC External Engagement office
Other duties as assigned by the Dean
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelors or Professional Degree with focus on marketing, communications or public relations
- Minimum of 5 five years of experience in a related field
- Proven ability to develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive strategic communication and engagement plans
- Experience serving as a media spokesperson and representing an organization in interviews and media engagements
- Demonstrated ability to supervise, guide, and support team members to achieve individual and collective success
- Strong organizational and leadership skills and ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a deadline driven environment
- Exceptional written communication skills for developing strategies, media materials, business plans, case studies, speeches, promotional content, web materials, and partner communications
- Strong interpersonal abilities and experience working effectively with diverse groups and stakeholders at all levels
- Experience in nurturing relations with media professionals and through social media challenges
- Experience in relationship building with groups such as alumni and clients, preference will be given to someone with donor relations experience
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
