Research on Tap - Can Morality Accommodate Supererogation?
Faculty, Students, and Staff are invited to another edition of Research on Tap. This discussion series highlights the work of a 17³Ô¹Ï researcher with a short talk followed by a Q&A session.
This time, Dr. Malcolm Murray will be asking "Can Morality Accommodate Supererogation?"
"A supererogatory (or super nice) act (i) goes beyond moral duty, (ii) is morally approved, and (iii) carries no moral condemnation for failure to comply. This demarcation raises the following puzzle: How can we morally praise an action that is not morally required? Conversely, we may wonder how acting outside the set of morality is still moral."

When: 6:00 pm, Wednesday, December 3, 2025
