National Indigenous Peoples Day

During National Indigenous History Month, June 21—the summer solstice—is designated as , “a day for all Canadians to recognize and celebrate the unique heritage, diverse cultures, and outstanding contributions of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.” (). 

To mark National Indigenous Peoples Day, 17Թ will raise the Mi’kmaq flag on one of the flagpoles located near the Kelley Building. The Mi’kmaq flag flies permanently on a flagpole at 17Թ Alumni Canada Games Place.

The Native Council of PEI will host its at Confederation Landing in Charlottetown on June 21, from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm. Highlights of the event include cultural performances, drumming, dancing, youth games, and prizes, as well as a free barbeque, bannock, and cake at lunch.
