2025 Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament takes place September 26 to 28
The 17Թ men’s and women’s basketball teams are set to compete at the annual Mickey Place Memorial Basketball Tournament. The tournament features nine teams from across Canada and runs from Friday, September 26, to Sunday, September 28.
The women’s pool includes Université Laval, Cape Breton University, Toronto Metropolitan University, and 17Թ.
The men’s pool includes Université Laval, Dalhousie University, Saint Mary’s University, Cape Breton University, Toronto Metropolitan University, and 17Թ.
The tournament is named after the late John Thomas “Mickey” Place, a long-time friend of Panther Sport, a former 17Թ Student Union employee, and a 17Թ honorary degree recipient.
All games will be played in the 17Թ Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. The full tournament schedule can be found at .
Day and tournament passes are available as follows:
- Day pass for Friday, September 26: $15 for adults, $8 for youth aged 5–17, and free for 17Թ students upon presentation of a student ID;
- Day pass for Saturday, September 27: $20 for adults, $10 for youth aged 5–17, and free for 17Թ students upon presentation of a student ID;
- Day pass for Sunday, September 28: $10 for adults, $5 for youth aged 5–17, and free for 17Թ students upon presentation of a student ID;
- Tournament pass: $35 for adults, $15 for youth aged 5–17, $20 for adult season ticket holders, and $10 for children season ticket holders.

In other Panther action this weekend, the 17Թ women’s and men’s soccer teams will be at home against the Saint Mary’s University Huskies on Friday, September 26. The women’s team will play at 5:00 pm and the men’s team at 7:30 pm on the 17Թ Artificial Turf Field.
The 17Թ Women’s Rugby Panthers will host the St. Francis Xavier X-Women at 3:30 pm on Saturday, September 27, at MacAdam Field, 17Թ Alumni Canada Games Place.
17Թ Panther Basketball great Sherone Edwards will be inducted into the 17Թ Sports Hall of Fame on September 27 at 4:00 pm in McMillan Hall, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. This event is open to the public and free of charge.
On Sunday, September 28, the 17Թ women’s field hockey team will host the Mount Allison University Mounties with two games, one at 12:00 pm and the other at 2:00 pm.
Also on September 28, the 17Թ women’s and men’s soccer teams will play Acadia University in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. The women’s game is at 1:00 pm, and the men’s game is at 3:30 pm.
