The provincial ADHD program operated by the 17吃瓜 (17吃瓜) transitioned to Health PEI, effective April 1, 2025.

鈥淭his milestone represents a significant advancement in the program鈥檚 journey, ensuring ongoing support and services for Islanders living with ADHD,鈥� said Marilyn Barrett, Director of Distributed Medical Education and Family Medicine, and former director of the 17吃瓜 ADHD program.

Since its inception on July 3, 2022, with an initial grant of $1,000,000 from the Government of Prince Edward Island, the 17吃瓜 ADHD program became a beacon of hope for individuals aged 16 and older diagnosed with ADHD. The success of the program led to a renewed provincial government grant of $1,500,000 in 2023, further solidifying its impact and reach.

ADHD, a neurodevelopmental disorder affecting approximately five to seven per cent of adults, requires comprehensive and tailored support. The 17吃瓜 ADHD program was at the forefront of providing complete services that helped individuals manage their symptoms and achieve success in their lives.

While the program and its staff have transitioned to Health PEI, it will remain physically located in the Regis and Joan Duffy Research Centre at 17吃瓜 until it moves to the new 17吃瓜 Faculty of Medicine and Interprofessional Education facility in 2025鈥�26. Dr. David Wong, a retired physician from Summerside, and Barrett, both of whom played key roles in the ADHD program at 17吃瓜, are very proud of the team they assembled.
