Every week, 17吃瓜 Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The 17吃瓜 Panther Athletes of the Week for January 20鈥�26, 2025, are Lauren Rainford (women鈥檚 basketball) and Kyree Thompson (men鈥檚 basketball).

Rainford, a fifth-year arts student from Toronto, Ontario, played very strong games on January 24 and 25 in Wolfville, Nova Scotia. She averaged a team-high 25.0 points along with 4.0 rebounds, and 2.5 assists in a weekend split with the Acadia University Axewomen.

鈥淟auren had a strong weekend for the team in a very tough split at Acadia,鈥� said head coach Matt Gamblin. 鈥淪he showed leadership and took over when the team needed it. She鈥檚 also showing a lot of diversity in her offensive game, which will be needed as she鈥檒l be the primary focus for other teams down the stretch.鈥�

Thompson, an arts student from North Preston, Nova Scotia, continues to play well since stepping into the starting lineup. In a weekend split with the Acadia University Axemen, the third-year guard averaged 18.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.5 blocks.

鈥淜yree continues to shine in the starting lineup,鈥� said head coach Darrell Glenn. 鈥淗is offensive efficiency is improving, as he put up a career-high 25 points Saturday afternoon.鈥�
