The 17吃瓜 Environmental Studies program is hosting the Science Atlantic Environment conference from March 22 to 24 at the University鈥檚 Charlottetown campus.

鈥淲e are excited to host this conference for the first time at 17吃瓜,鈥� said Dr. Carolyn Peach Brown, professor of environmental studies and chair of the organizing committee. 鈥淭his is also the first time that the conference has been held in person since 2019. We look forward to welcoming to the Island environmental students and faculty from universities across Atlantic Canada and to the diverse scholarship that will be presented during the conference.鈥�

During the conference, 49 graduate and undergraduate students will present their research on a range of topics, such as tree species鈥� growth sensitivity to seasonal temperatures, community-based renewable energy on PEI, bobolink (Dolichonyx oryzovorous) breeding and habitat in the Wolastoq/Saint John River Valley, and technology and capitalism in Nova Scotia鈥檚 new climate change plan. Participants will hear from two keynote speakers: Dr. Judith Nyiraneza, research scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, who will present 鈥淪oil-regenerative management practices to enhance PEI soil health,鈥� and Dr. Joshua MacFadyen, 17吃瓜 Canada Research Chair in Geospatial Humanities, who will give a presentation called 鈥淢apping Eastern Canadian Energy Transitions in City, Field, and Forest.鈥�

They were scheduled to tour the 17吃瓜 Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation on Friday, March 22. Other conference events include poster sessions, oral presentations, a career panel, and awards.
