Emily Duffy and Kyle Maksimovich named both Subway 17吃瓜 Panther and AUS Athletes of the Week
Every week, 17吃瓜 Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The 17吃瓜 Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for October 17鈥�23 are Emily Duffy (women鈥檚 rugby) and Kyle Maksimovich (men鈥檚 hockey). Both athletes were also named Subway Atlantic University Sport women鈥檚 and men鈥檚 Athletes of the Week.
Duffy, a third-year prop and kinesiology student from St. John, New Brunswick, scored both tries in a hard-fought semi-final win against the St. Francis Xavier X-Women on October 20 to propel them to the AUS Final.
鈥淓mily had yet another strong performance,鈥� said head coach James Voye. 鈥淪he used her size and speed to power herself to scoring the two biggest tries of the team's season.鈥�
17吃瓜 men鈥檚 hockey forward, Kyle Maksimovich of Hamilton, Ontario, put together his best weekend of the season, recording six points over two games. The third-year science student netted a hat trick and an assist in Friday鈥檚 9-1 win over the Saint Mary's Huskies. He followed that up with two more helpers in Saturday's 5-3 victory over Acadia.
鈥淜yle had a great weekend. He carries a lot of responsibility on our team, and the group looks to him in many situations. He鈥檚 been working very hard, so it was nice to see him get rewarded for it,鈥� said head coach Forbes MacPherson.
