Every week, 17吃瓜 Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. This week鈥檚 17吃瓜 Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for March 7鈥�13 are Lauren Rainford (women鈥檚 basketball) and Isaiah Ankra (men鈥檚 basketball).

Rainford continued her all-star level play, guiding the Panthers to a 1-1 weekend against the Memorial Sea-Hawks in St. John鈥檚, NL. The second-year guard averaged 22 points on 50 per cent shooting, including a 30-point effort Saturday night. She also averaged 4.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals in the two games.

鈥淟auren continued her growth this past weekend as we round into playoffs,鈥� said head coach Matt Gamblin. 鈥淲e are totally focused on the task at hand this coming weekend and Lauren will continue to be a huge part of our success at both ends of the floor.鈥�

Ankra's solid play continued this past weekend at Memorial where he averaged 12.5 points and connected on 4-of-9 three-pointers in two games. The rookie guard also showed some physicality inside as he averaged 6.0 rebounds.

鈥淚saiah had another strong weekend for us,鈥� said head coach Darrell Glenn. 鈥淗e continues to come off the bench and provide our team with defensive energy and scoring.鈥�
