17吃瓜 announces the Panther Subway Athletes of the Week, February 3 to 10
Every week, 17吃瓜 Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. Congratulations to Sophie Vandale and Elijah Miller, the 17吃瓜 Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for February 3 to 10.
Vandale, a third-year science student from Winnipeg, Manitoba, plays defence on the 17吃瓜 women鈥檚 hockey team. She recorded two assists over the weekend in the Panther鈥檚 win against St. Thomas University and finished the regular season tied for first with a +22 rating. 鈥淪ophie鈥檚 a consistent and steady force on the blue line,鈥� said coach Bruce Donaldson. 鈥淗er play is calm, and her demeanour on the ice is always positive.鈥�
Miller is a first-year point guard on the 17吃瓜 men鈥檚 basketball team and a business student from Etobicoke, Ontario. He averaged 23 points per game this weekend in games against the UNB Reds and Acadia Axemen. 鈥淥ver the span of two games this past weekend, Elijah played 63 minutes,鈥� said coach Darrell Glenn. 鈥淗e shot 15鈥�28 (53 per cent) from the field, handed out nine assists, and turned the ball over once. Elijah continues to show why he is one of the new bright stars in the league.鈥�
