Every week, 17吃瓜 Athletics and Recreation recognizes student athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. Congratulations to Sophie Carragher and Ignacio Sanchez, the 17吃瓜 Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for September 17鈥�23.

Sophie Carragher is a second-year kinesiology student from Stratford, PEI and a second-row flanker on the 17吃瓜 Women鈥檚 Rugby team. The Panthers beat Saint Mary鈥檚 University over the weekend in a 25鈥�12 game, where Carragher scored a try. 鈥淪ophie had a strong game for us,鈥� said coach John LaBoyne. 鈥淗er line-breaks and speed set the team up for further play down the field. Her try came off a very dominant Panther scrum鈥擲ophie picked from her #8 position and dove over the line.鈥�

Ignacio Sanchez is a fourth-year business administration student from Cornwall, PEI and is captain of the 17吃瓜 Men鈥檚 Soccer team. The Panthers dropped a pair of games over the weekend to Cape Breton University and St. Francis Xavier University, but coach Lewis Page said Sanchez showed leadership on and off the field. 鈥淣acho Sanchez was excellent in both road games this weekend,鈥� said Page. 鈥淗is tireless running enabled him to contribute both on the attached and defense with a box-to-box performance.鈥�
