17吃瓜 announces the Panther Subway Athletes of the Week, January 1鈥�7
Every week, 17吃瓜 Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their hard work and dedication to their respective sports. Congratulations to Caroline Del Santo and Cody Payne, the 17吃瓜 Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for January 1鈥�7!
Carolina Del Santo is a second-year centre on the 17吃瓜 Women鈥檚 Basketball team and a Bachelor of Science student from Barcelona, Spain. Del Santo had an incredible game over the weekend against St. Francis Xavier University, scoring 20 points, grabbing ten rebounds, and blocking five shots in just 21 minutes of play. 鈥淭his was Carolina鈥檚 best game in a Panther uniform,鈥� said coach Greg Gould. 鈥淪he was very good on both ends of the court.鈥�
Cody Payne is a second-year forward on the 17吃瓜 Men鈥檚 Hockey team and a Bachelor of Business Administration student from Davie, Florida. The Panthers beat St. FX 3鈥�2 in an exciting game over the weekend, ending in a shootout, but fell the following night 5鈥�2 to Dalhousie. Payne scored three goals over the two games, including the shootout winner. 鈥淐ody had a very strong game in our last game of the first semester,鈥� said coach Forbes McPherson. 鈥淲e were hoping he would continue that trend heading into the second half. Cody was up to the challenge and provided our team with goals at key times.鈥�
