Panthers at Home, November 10-11
Friday and Saturday are packed for the Panthers at home. Catch action for Womenās and Menās Hockey, Womenās and Menās Basketball, and the Maritimes University Menās Rugby Championship game.
17³Ō¹Ļ Womenās Basketball starts the weekend with the first of two games against the University of New Brunswick. The tip-off for both Friday and Saturdayās games is at 6:00 pm.
āAfter a split with Saint Maryās on the road last weekend, our team is looking forward to playing at home against another strong AUS opponent,ā said coach Greg Gould. āI felt we defended well against Saint Maryās and are looking to step up our offence against UNB. It often comes down to the little things like rebounding, taking care of the basketball, making our free throws, and sharing the basketball.ā
17³Ō¹Ļ Menās Basketball also hosts UNB for a pair of games. Friday and Saturdayās games begin at 8:00 pm.
āThis weekendās games present some very serious challenges for us defensively,ā said coach Darrell Glenn. āIf we want to have any hope of competing, we will have to do a much better job in defensive transition and defensive rebounding than we did last weekend.ā
17³Ō¹Ļ Menās Hockey plays at home in MacLauchlan Arena Friday and Saturday night. Friday, the Panthers take on Dalhousie University; Saturday, itās St. Francis Xavier Universityās turn to play. Both games start at 7:00 pm.
āWe continue to work very hard, clean up some areas, and focus on the process,ā said coach Forbes MacPherson. āThere are times that we are very pleased with our game. We need to pull together and hopefully get rewarded with a pair of wins.ā
Fresh off of its victory last weekend for the NB/PEI University Menās Rugby Championship, the Panthers are ready to play St. Francis Xavier University in the Maritime University Menās Rugby Championship. The game starts at 2:00 pm.
āI think the last time we played St. FX, I was playing for 17³Ō¹Ļ and not coaching, so we certainly arenāt familiar with the opponent we face on Saturday,ā said coach Charles Waddell. āOur plan is to work hard, play our game, and leave it all out on the field.ā
17³Ō¹Ļ Womenās Hockey has just one game at home this weekend. The Panthers play UniversitĆ© de Moncton at 3:00 pm. Coach Bruce Donaldson says his team is hungry for a win.
āThis will be our fourth game against them (including exhibition), and Moncton has won each time by a goal,ā said Donaldson. āWe really need to do a better job defending on the penalty-kill. Moncton moves the puck very well and does a great job of getting the puck to open players for scoring opportunities. This is a big weekend for our programāwe have some ground to make up in the standings, so we need all our players on the same page.ā
17³Ō¹Ļ is proud to participate in āKeep It Socialāāa program that 17³Ō¹Ļ Athletics and the PEI Liquor Control Commission have partnered on that helps students make responsible decisions when it comes to alcohol. Visit keepitsocial.ca to learn more.
