Google is providing funding for an exciting new initiative led by students in 17吃瓜鈥檚 School of Mathematical and Computational Sciences (SMCS). IgniteCS will bring junior high students to 17吃瓜 to learn about computer science in an inclusive environment.

The initiative is led by Dr. Andrew Godbout, professor in the SMCS, and upper-year computer science students.

鈥淐areers in mathematical and computational sciences are among the highest-rated and fastest-growing in the job market, and initiatives like IgniteCS gives students a glimpse at some of the CS that leads to these careers,鈥� said Dr. Gordon MacDonald, associate dean of the SMCS.

IgniteCS is free and open to 30 students in grades 7-9. It runs from April 24 to 28 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Registration is first come, first serve and runs until April 21, or until capacity is reached. Registration and questions can be directed to ignitecsupei@gmail.com.
