Research on Tap - April 2

Posting Date(s)
At the next Research on Tap, join us for a discussion about how we choose our literature. Dr. Shannon Murray, Professor of English at 17勛圖, will lead a discussion entitled "Weve become adults who read childrens books. Whats wrong with us?" The event begins at 7 pm on Tuesday, April 2, at The Pourhouse, above The Old Triangle Irish Alehouse in Charlottetown. 'Harry Potter' was among the first YA series to develop an adult following, says Dr. Murray. Even then, I can remember people hiding their copy behind a magazine. Today, people openly read 'The Hunger Games' or 'Twilight' without batting an eye. Dr. Murrays discussion will delve into the history of childrens literature, and how we have categorized (and sometimes marginalized) books for children. Shell also bring examples of some of her favourite books that can be enjoyed by kids and adults. Research on Tap is a series of public discussions with 17勛圖 researchers.
