This session will also include the use of design personas to think about how students may experience your course.

The 17³Ô¹Ï Biology Department is pleased to welcome back alumna Dr. Lisa Purcell, Senior Scientist at Regeneron, USA. Lisa graduated from 17³Ô¹Ï with a BSc, Honours Biology, in 2001. She will present the next seminar in the ESC-HUB seminar series.

Dr. Purcell’s talk is entitled “Stopping the leak: Targeting the host to treat cerebral malaria†and will be presented on Friday, November 10, 2017 at 12:30 pm in room 204 Duffy Science Centre.

The Rotary Club of Charlottetown and the 17³Ô¹Ï Internal Relations Office invite 17³Ô¹Ï students interested in joining a Rotaract Club (youth aged 18-30) to come hear Martin Ruben speak about having helped initiate a Rotaract Club in the Cayman Islands. Mr. Ruben would like to help 17³Ô¹Ï students understand what is involved in starting a club here, and how this is a fantastic opportunity for students to make local connections, find mentors and contribute to the community. 17³Ô¹Ï will induct Barb Mullaly (posthumously) as a builder, Alanna Taylor as a player, and George Morrison as a coach member of the 17³Ô¹Ï Sports Hall of Fame at its Gala Reception and Dinner on Thursday, November 9 in the 17³Ô¹Ï Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. If you have an emergency vest in your office or area please email Kathryn Harrison at kharrison@upei.ca with the following information:

  • What colour is the vest (send a picture if possible)
  • Where it/you are located
  • Who is currently the building warden or guardian?

If you do not need the vest (you are not serving as a warden or guardian for evacuation purposes) skip the email and send the vest directly to Kathryn Harrison in Kelley Memorial Building room 309 for redistribution.

Interactive videos can increase student engagement and interest. Our latest version of Moodle is now equipped with interactive video creation capability. Instructors are invited to attend a workshop, offered by the E-Learning Office, on how to create a basic interactive video. This workshop will be offered on two separate dates. Tuesday, November 14 11:00 am to 12:00 pm or Friday, November 17 1:00 to 2:00 pm; in the Robertson Library, Room 265.

As part of Health and Fitness Week 2017, Piecing Together a Healthy Lifestyle is an interactive learning experience for 17³Ô¹Ï students, staff and faculty. We will give you hands on activities to help you better understand how to eat nutritiously and incorporate physical activity into your busy lifestyle.

This hour long session on November 24, 2017 from 12:00 to 1:00pm will leave you feeling more competent in the overwhelming areas of nutrition and physical activity. Please pre-register by emailing otheriault@upei.ca with your Campus ID number.

Nutrition is a major component to good health, as part of Health and Fitness Week 2017 there are three events planned to improve your knowledge on nutrition and the best choices you can make!

The Intro to Cooking Healthy Session is open to 17³Ô¹Ï students, staff and faculty - you do not need a meal plan to attend. Join us and Executive Chef Alan Paul of Chartwells for a cooking session - learn how to cook simple, healthy meals and have fun while doing it! Pre-registration is required. Please email  to register with your Campus ID number and specify whether you will attend on November 20 at 1:30 pm or November 23 at 1:30 pm.

POWER SHUTDOWN

There will be a power shutdown for Memorial Hall on Friday, November 10, 2017 beginning at 8:30 pm. This power shutdown will also cause an interruption of power for approximately ½ hour at the beginning of the work and again when the work is completed for the Robertson Library, K. C. Irving Building, Don and Marion McDougall Hall, Duffy Science Centre, Cass Building, Chaplaincy Centre, Wanda Wyatt Dining Hall, Andrew Hall, Bernardine Hall and Blanchard Hall.

This shutdown is necessary to replace the main electrical panel in Memorial Hall, the work is expected to take approximately 10 hours to complete. Emergency power will not be affected.

The Robertson Library is offering an intro 30-minute presentation with further hands-on time on the RefWorks citation management system on Tuesday, November 7 at 2:00 pm and repeating on Friday, November 10 at noon in the LINC classroom in the Robertson Library.

This will be useful for students and faculty, whether you used the old RefWorks or are learning RefWorks for the first time. If you bring your laptop, we can help you set up the Word or Google Docs plugin following the main presentation. If you are unable to make these times but would like to learn about RefWorks, please contact Melissa Belvadi, mbelvadi@upei.ca.

The Robertson Library is offering a presentation, with hands-on tutorial time, on Tuesday November 7 at 3:00 pm and again on Friday November 10 at 11:00 am in the LINC classroom (Rm 265) in the Library. Faculty, staff, and students that use Google Scholar, this is a chance to learn some useful time-saving tips!

If you are unable to make this time but would like to learn these tips, please contact Melissa Belvadi, mbelvadi@upei.ca to arrange another time.

PEI's Disability Support Program is making changes with the goal of creating a program that is more inclusive of all islanders. They are looking for feedback from Islanders with disabilities and their families, service providers who support people with disabilities, and employers. If this is you, please take the time to complete the survey

The survey should only take 5 minutes to complete and is open until November 10 at 4:00 pm.

As an instructor, you’ve set up a syllabus that clearly explains your expectations for where students will end up. Then you set them on the journey to that destination. However, some will get off track along the way. The information you provide, how you provide it and when you provide it will be key to getting them back on the right path or in keeping them on the right path.

In this workshop, provided by the E-Learning Office, instructors will learn strategies for the use of feedback and rubrics that they can use to accompany student assessments. This workshop will be offered on two separate dates. Thursday, November 9 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm; Robertson Library, Rm 265 or Thursday, November 30 10:00 to 11:00 am; Robertson Library, Room 265.
