Music Faculty Gala - February 2
On Saturday, February 2 at 7:30 pm, the 17吃瓜 music faculty will be showcased in their annual gala concert at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall. The concert is an opportunity for faculty members to perform some of their favourite repertoire as solo and ensemble musicians. The evening will feature solo performances by Karem J. Simon (clarinet), Jim Dickson (guitar), Morgan Saulnier (flute), and Frances Gray (piano). 鈥淲onderland Duets鈥� based on the poems of Lewis Carroll will be performed by Gregory Irvine and Robert Nicholson on tuba, with narrator Stephen Bouey and Jacqueline Sorensen who will join Frances Gray in Dvorak鈥檚 piano duet 鈥淪lavonic Dances Op.46.鈥� Tickets are available at the door for $15/$10 (students/seniors). Public talk: S. Bear Bergman on 鈥淟ife, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Gender鈥� - February 8
Everyone is invited to a public talk by author, storyteller, playwright S. Bear Bergman, on Friday, February 8, 2013, at 5:00 pm, in K.C. Irving Chemistry Centre 104, entitled 鈥淟ife, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Gender.鈥� The talk will be followed by a question and answer period and a reception. This talk is the keynote address for the 鈥淒ifficult Dialogues鈥� student conference. For more information on Bear Bergman, please see his website: . This event is free and open to everyone. We鈥檒l also have a 鈥榳ho needs difficult dialogues?鈥� video corner and other exhibits. The event starts Friday, February 8 at 12:30 pm and continues all day on Saturday, February 9. Glucose, Cholesterol and Blood Pressure Clinic - February 5 and March 5
17吃瓜 Athletics & Recreation will be having a glucose, cholesterol, and blood pressure clinic on Tuesday, February 5 and Tuesday, March 5 from 8:30 am - noon. This clinic is free for 17吃瓜 students, staff and faculty. To book your 10-minute appointment, please contact Angela Marchbank at amarchbank@upei.ca.

17吃瓜 Synchro Hosts "Sync or Swim" Fundraiser - January 30
17吃瓜鈥檚 synchronized swimming team will host their 鈥淪ync or Swim鈥� fundraiser on Wednesday, January 30, 8鈥�9 pm at the CARI complex. The team will showcase various routines as well as a highlight routine in which there are displays of incredible lifts and jumps. The 17吃瓜 men鈥檚 rugby club will perform their very own routine, which is sure to be entertaining. 鈥淪ync or Swim鈥� tickets can be purchased for $10 or $8 (students), or $15 VIP (which includes on-deck seating and a special screening of the routines under water). Tickets are available from any 17吃瓜 synchro team member, or at the W.A. Murphy Student Centre on January 29 and 30, 11:30 am鈥�2:00 pm. Science Seminar Presentation - January 30
Dr. Adrian Culf, Atlantic Cancer Research Institute, will present a seminar on Wednesday, January 30 at 12:30 pm. Dr. Culf鈥檚 presentation is entitled 鈥淚soenzyme-selective histone deacetylase (HDAC) inhibitors: HDAC6 in human breast and prostate cancer cell lines.鈥� The seminar will be held in Room 128 in the KC Irving Chemistry Centre.
Music Department Recital Series Presents Canadian Pianist Julien LeBlanc - January 29
On Tuesday, January 29 at 7:30 pm the Music Department Recital Series presents Canadian pianist Julien LeBlanc. Renowned for his great musical sensibility and his talent as a communicator, Julien will present a solo recital featuring the works of Scarlatti, Schumann, and Ravel. Julien is a well-sought-after soloist, chamber player, and accompanist. Based in Montreal, he tours the country extensively allowing audiences from coast to coast to enjoy his performances with different formations as well as in solo recitals. The performance will take place in Dr. Steel Recitall Hall. Tickets are available at the door for $15 and $10 (students and seniors).
